VSONIC GR07 Bass

As I am the Previous owner of HiFiMAN RE400. I like it a lot. First thing I noticed when I play music is the Soundstage, Separation and detailing in the mid to High. This is the area where it exceeds RE400. Low-end is not as tight as RE400 but it is good, Mid is a little bit recessed. No one headphone or headset will shine in all the areas. if u really need Soundstage, Detailing, Separation with little bit compensation on bass tightness, mid, surely this is one to go.

Having listened to the Vsonic's GR07 BE and GR07 Classic, and Hifiman's RE-400, I wanted to give a few suggestions to those who are looking to buy any of these.

Bass: The GR07 BE has the more bass of them all but still the tonality of the original GR07 has been preserved. It is quite tastefully done too as the bass never bleeds into the mids. It rectifies a couple of minors, how should I put it, annoyances of the GR07 Classic and introduces a couple more. Let me explain:
(1) The GR07 Classic has also a very mild bass boost, but its sub-bass probably rolls off too fast and I often find myself straining to hear it. This is true even in comparison to the Hifiman RE-400 which has a more linear bass. The BE's bass boost, which lifts the sub-bass back to where it should be, is particularly noticeable coming from the Classic version. However, instead of boosting only the sub-bass, the entire bass range is lifted by a couple of decibels and it doesn't sound natural to me.
(2) The added bass-boost of the BE's offsets the somewhat splashy and sibilant treble of the GR07s, which is a good thing. But again, the mids sound noticeably recessed because of this.
However, note that the RE-400 is no slouch when it comes to speed and texture of the bass, although I find it a bit lacking at times. The trick is to "not ask" for more bass from it. Wait (like a few weeks) for it to hit home, and when it does it is magical!

Mids: I've always liked how the Hifiman RE-400's are tuned and I can say with confidence that no other dynamic driver comes close to the lushness and texture of their mids. The GR07 Classic sounds a bit thin and dry next to the RE-400. Again, the BE has the least midrange clarity of the three. I found it a bit too recessed for my tastes.

Treble: Now the GR07 Classic has a reasonably good treble extension. If only it wasn't splashy/sibilant. The BE fares better in this aspect entirely because of its boosted bass. And with the RE-400 the treble rolls off very fast and is kind of unnatural, but it's nothing you can't live with. However, they are silky smooth and far more forgiving compared to the Vsonics. I enjoyed them best on long listening sessions.

Soundstage: After much listening, I feel that the RE-400s are much more rounded whereas the GR07s are more wide than deep.

Build Quality: When it comes to build quality they all fall short. The RE-400 has too fine and fragile a cable that can easily get caught between crevices, and while the GR07's have a thicker cable, they don't have a proper strain relief near the earbuds and can easily fail (My GR07 failed!). So if you buy any of these, take care of them like you'll take care of your lover!

TL;DR: If you come from cheaper/consumer-oriented earphones (or) if you're not sure which one to choose, then you can't go wrong with the GR07 Bass Edition. If you're after a more natural sound, and you know that you are not sensitive to sibilance then go for the GR07 Classic. And last but not the least, if you are okay with slightly less impactful bass and slightly mid-centric sound then the RE-400 provides a more well-rounded experience. That said, the RE-400 is the earphone that has the least number of flaws out of the bunch, but it may not be for all.

I just purchased one earphone, the appearance was not so attractive but when we wear it is comfortable and the quality of sound is amazing to hear. It is worth for the money paid.

Here is my straight to the point views, will not get into audiophile jargon as that you can find a lot over the web about these in-ear headphones. So getting straight to the point; GR07BE is worth investing if you are serious about music but do consider uncompressed music to get the best out of them and also your source, do play a very important role in what you hear and perceive out of your gear.

Build –
GR07 BE’s are good build. I was a little apprehensive initially about the cable (on comparing them with my Shure’s) but using them for about a month now, I am convinced about their durability (but Shure’s are better).

Accessories & Comfort –
Not that comfortable! I prefer ear monitors with over-ear cable, and to my experience, these GR07’s do not have the best of fits. Ear guides are provided, that does help to some extent, but I am not a fan of ear guides as they have their shortcomings. Memory wire would have been good. Earphone tips have been provided but finding the right fit would take time and even if u do, I am sure you would also struggle to get the best of fits (I did). My suggestion to Vsonic here would be to add some good quality foam ear tips. To help you, you can buy Comply Foam – 400 series and that would solve the fit issue but they are expensive. Once you find the right fit, then they are a breeze.

Sound –
Here, I will not get into technical jargon. Before giving them listening and writing this review, I gave them a 30-35 hrs burn-in time using pink noise. The gear that I used – I phone, Mac-book pro, Fiio Kilimanjaro, and Schiit Asgard 2 (solid-state amp) and uncompressed music. To start with, these do not need amplification and you can use them with your mobile phone however a high res player would yield better results like Fiio X1-X7; XDuoo, etc.
These are very balanced across the whole frequency spectrum. No specific frequency over-powers the adjacent. These have very subtle bass, which means they do their job perfectly. If you are a Jazz, classical fan, you would be blown away with their performance. Not that they are bad with other genres of music at all! The bass is tight but not overpowering and minds you a lot depending on your fit. The better the ear tip fit, the better is the isolation and better the results would be. I recommend Comply foam ear tips, which I have been using. High are good. Some have complained about the sibilance issue, but I did not come across sibilance to the extent that would be annoying to your ears. Mid’s are very very good. You feel the urge to listen to your music again and again. One of the very best of mid’s reproduction I have come across.
Just one thing, though I know I am being a bit overcritical here, I would love to see more sound stage presence.

Final Verdict –
They are a great piece of in-ear monitors that one cannot go wrong with. If you want to enjoy music, the way it has been recorded; these are one of the gems. Not all nuances can be heard as in Grados but these are not meant to compete with those ranging way high in price. I rate them very high in my collection and are my goto earphones if I am not doing critical listening.
